New donation record with over 110,000 euros for two donation projects
Berlin, 29.10.2021 – Yesterday, the 10th Diabetes Charity Gala under the 2G Rule took place at the TIPI am Kanzleramt in Berlin, 300 guests accepted the invitation of the organizer diabetesDE – Deutsche Diabetes-Hilfe. The key note was held by TV journalist Sandra Maischberger, who called on politicians to have more courage in diabetes prevention. Currently, more than eight million people in Germany are affected by diabetes, with a further 1,700 new cases being diagnosed every day. The focus of the fundraising gala was on the two fundraising projects “Challenge-D” and “meala,” which focus on digital therapy support. A total of more than 110,000 euros was raised, a new donation record. As a highlight of the gala, the Thomas Fuchsberger Award was also presented for the 10th time. The prize was awarded to Dr. Imke Kreuzer, a physician from Cologne, Germany, whose MMM project provides voluntary care for people with diabetes who do not have health insurance. The laudatory speech was given by actor Ralf Bauer, who knew Thomas Fuchsberger, who died in 2010, like his brother.
The gala was hosted by the Chairman of the Board of diabetesDE – Deutsche Diabetes-Hilfe, Dr. Jens Kröger, together with Executive Director Nicole Mattig-Fabian, after the couple Inge and Matthias Steiner dropped out at short notice due to illness. On behalf of the organization, six celebrity sponsors accepted donation checks on stage for the two charitable donation projects “meala,” an app to provide individual support for people with diabetes in recognizing carbohydrates in meals, and “Challenge-D,” a telemedical coaching program for competitive athletes with diabetes: ex-football manager Reiner Calmund, actress Maren Gilzer, national field hockey player Timur Oruz, national soccer player Sandra Starke, author Isolde Tarrach and actress Katja Weitzenböck.

TV journalist Sandra Maischberger, a friend of show legend Blacky Fuchsberger, who attended the gala for three years before his death, delivered an impressive key note. She remembered her deceased friend and, in view of the ever-increasing numbers of people with diabetes, had words of warning for the politicians present. The Diabetes Kids Super Talent Competition was one of the highlights of the gala. The winner was 12-year-old Helen Sophie Schmitt from Weinstetten near Ulm with a classical ballet performance.
The winner of the 10th Thomas Fuchsberger Award was Dr. Imke Kreuzer, a physician who, together with a team of doctors in Cologne, provides voluntary care for people with diabetes who do not have health insurance. The prize was presented by Jenny and Julien Fuchsberger, Thomas’ children, and the emotional laudatory speech was given by actor Ralf Bauer. The band Frida Gold provided the background music at the gala.
The Diabetes Charity Gala was supported this year by Abbott, Almased, Boehringer Ingelheim, Dexcom, Diabetes Ratgeber, IFD, IKK classic, Medtronic and Melitta.
